Calcot & Spa – Environmental, Social and Governance Policy
As a hotel collection, we acknowledge that many activities of the hotel industry can have a detrimental effect on the environment around us and potentially affect one of the key drivers of tourism to this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We therefore wholeheartedly commit to decreasing our environmental footprint and increasing the sustainability of the services we offer without compromising on the standards of quality our guests receive.
Calcot is a luxury hotel on a 240-acre estate, primarily rewilded agricultural land and woodland. The estate, bounded by the A46, Chavenage Lane, the A4135, and private farmland, features converted farm buildings dating back to 1311. The hotel offers 35 rooms, an 80-cover restaurant, and an all-day café/cocktail bar.
The spa includes an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, café, relaxation space, and 7 treatment rooms. The Grain Store focuses on fitness with indoor/outdoor gyms, exercise studios, changing rooms, and a café/reception area. It also houses an on-site laundry, administration offices, and storage. Additional amenities include an outdoor pool and 2 tennis courts.
Nearby watercourses include Ozleworth Brook, Horsley Stream, and a tributary to the River Avon. The estate is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we will collaborate with the EarthCheck Programme, continuously striving to improve our efforts while adhering to all relevant legislation and regulations to achieve best practices. Our EarthCheck Coordinators are responsible for assessing and documenting our ESG impact. They work with our Executive Team who take on the additional responsibility of advancing our sustainability initiatives.
We will prioritise minimising waste, finding innovative ways to recycle and reuse wherever possible. Our procurement will focus on local suppliers and manufacturers, and we will work with our suppliers to implement positive changes in operating behaviours. Environmental concerns and sustainability will remain a key factor in our decision-making processes at every level.
Our commitment to rewilding is integral to our environmental strategy. We will promote the conservation of our natural landscape by maintaining organic status and advancing our rewilding ambitions. Collaboration with The National Trust and other aligned organisations will continue to move forward with such projects, gaining insights and advice for development. We will continue to promote biodiversity in landscaped areas.
We promise to support local employment and provide live-in accommodation for those from further afield. Our commitment to providing our teams with training, education, equal opportunities, and promoting health and well-being practices throughout the collection will persist. We will engage with the local community to ensure our sustainability efforts benefit not only our guests and team members but also the broader community.
We acknowledge that these changes and future plans will take further time and effort and are evolving. However, the commitment is set to invest in protecting the future of our delicate environment for generations of guests, team members, and the local community to come.
